A Snapshot of Time

Written words, a photo, both capture a moment that could only happen once

T-Minus to Halloween

And my weekend is winding down. Sunday's are such a bitter sweet day. Slept in and then did homework in bed surrounded by my menagerie of animals. Later Krista and I carved pumpkins in the front yard. We made quite a site surrounded by all those Autumn leaves. We also made some new friends, mostly trying to figure out if we need to be prepared to handout candy. The unanimous decision is that we might not get a lot of traffic but that we should be prepared to hand out candy. Thus, we are excited.

Peter Pan

So three posts ago I mentioned receiving some gifts from my mom that to me signaled I was growing up. One such thing was a square dish from my moms china, Mason's/Regency's Plantation Colonial (which she was very excited to learn that I love as much as she does). So I promptly brought it home (and by promptly I mean that I forgot it at home and had to head back to get it after picking Krista up all of 5 houses down) and put it in what appeared to be a safe place in the kitchen. Appeared being the operative word here.

As you can guess at this point it broke. It slid off its shelf, into the sink, and broke into four pieces. I'm not so much upset that it's broken (I believe mom phrased it "It's ok, I must have about 6 more") but that I failed to keep it in a single piece. It's a symbol. Of grown-up-hood (yes, really). I keep telling myself I'm being silly but it hasn't quite hit home yet.

In other news- Changed my room around this weekend and it's looking a lot better. What's really shocking though is that this furniture move including moving all the clothes and shoes into the small closet (dresser came out into the room) while the large closet was turned into longer term storage. For those of you who were unaware- My room at Krista's has two closets. The original closet- which is actually a decent size- and a second "walk in." The walk in is about 2 feet stolen from the living room. It even has the living room windows in it. Anyway, long story short. Three doors made furniture arrangements in the room a bit awkward and so far this is working out much better.

Enough rambling.

Und Meine Mac is Back!

So I finally got around to taking my Macbook to the Mac Experience. AKA- The place they do Mac service. Got a new airport card (my airport card) and doubled RAM. All for less than $100. I think I did ok. Plus, I HAVE INTERNET! and my computer is faster. It's a good day.

Fake Crystal Light and a Green Sign

The weekend is wrapping up and what a weekend it was. Friday I got lost in Carmel and then Saturday I headed back there for Power Shift Indiana 2009. This conference was an interesting experience to say the least. Instead of leaving empowered to change the world I'm disheartened and frustrated. I have smaller things like passing my classes to graduate that need to happen too. Plus, I met all these people and well, I just look into myself and wonder. Maybe it's the new haircut. One of the freshman asked me when I cut my hair so I told her my story.

In a period of six days I pierced my lip and cut off 5 inches of hair (I believe making it 15in cut off in less than a year). Each desicion came seperatly after almost a year of internal debate. These changes made it possible for me to look in the mirror each morning and finally see me in there. It wasn't who everyone else wanted me to be; it was me. Ok, I'm making a mountain out of a mole hill with the hair cut. It's cute (plus, in another 3 weeks I could have it trimmed by the fabulous Michele and it'd be back to normal).

So wether it's the cut or wether I'm not sure I can champion for what I believe in, either way- It was a interesting weekend.

Growing up and getting older

So this weekend. I went home, had "The Talk" with the parents (no, not THAT talk, The Future talk). They approve of both plans. For now I'll just do the best I can and keep on working for what I want.

In other news, I'm officially growing up. Got my first real, grown up, passed down from the mother gifts. I won my first piece of Mason's Plantation Colonial (my mothers china which isn't actually china but something else). I also got a set of silver. Sweet. Thanks Mom!

I also got to watch my mom work. "I think she should create peace in the Middle East" (Rachel Sirinek). She kicks butt; I'm not sure she could create peace in the Middle East but she is pretty awesome.
