Praha
I still have a few good Berlin photos to share but I'll save those for a slow blogging day (or you can check them out on facebook). Now it's time for Prague. I believe I mentioned before that I had no reason why people say Prague is awesome but I was off to find out. First, Prague is beautiful. See?
And it's old. No, seriously, Prague is actually old. Due to how the city was liberated in WWII most of the structures survived. This is not the case in Germany where a large portion of the "old" buildings are rebuilds following WWII (or following the 30 Years War, WWI, and WWII). Plus it's got this weird mix of architectural styles (often in a single building).
So, while Prague it's self is cool I'm sure... the tourists need to get outta the way. There are people EVERYWHERE. I guess it would be fine if the city where larger (or at least if the tourist locations were more spread out, but alas they are not). I really don't think it helps that I'm getting a bit burnt out and could use a day vegging in bed while watching movies. So instead of "doing things!" I wandered. Ok, that isn't totally true (this is when I shamelessly rep the tour company I've been using). Wednesday I had a pretty packed day when I did three of New Europe's Prague tours. I started the morning with the free tour of Old Town. I had a 10 minute break and headed straight to the Prague Castle Tour (btw- Prague Castle isn't really a castle. It's a huge church that took 1300 years to complete and complex of buildings. This complex was a palace but calling it a castle is a bit misleading). Then I was off to their Beer Challenge. Beer, as we know it today, was apparently invented in the Czech Republic. Too bad I'm too loyal to Germany and still prefer German beer (omg, hefeweizen. drool.) I really enjoy the small beer tours (I did one in Munich as well). In addition to drinking, the groups tend to be smaller and the guides tell you interesting things about beer (as opposed to a pub crawl where they just usher you from bar to bar). Plus, by the time your tour is over you've made at least one friend. Last night I made 4 friends. And we went clubbing. Reaffirming yet again- I hate clubbing.
My 2 week adventure is winding down. I fly to Oxford in 3 days and will hit 2 cities between now and then, most likely for some more wandering.
