Jack Cafferty and our Schools

First up- I don't usually pay attention to a specific author or commentator when it comes to my news. I don't watch the news on TV so I don't a specific person I look to. Normally I just scan CNN.com to try and keep on the headlines. That's it for me. Headlines. Between that people's facebook status's I tend to keep up to date on what is happening in the world (Thanks to Andy Liebner for educating me on Mt. ReDoubt via your FB status). However, the point. Since I do regularly peruse CNN.com I've started to run across Jack Cafferty. By run across I mean I've read at least two of his commentaries that made me actually look at who wrote it.

Up Second- http://www.cnn.com/2009/LIVING/03/30/cafferty.schools/index.html?iref=mpstoryview

Here is a link to Jack's latest commentary about the state of US schools. In it states that IPS schools (well, it says the main school system in Indianapolis which I would take to mean IPS) graduate less than 50% of their students. I think they only graduate 40%. Butler has started a campaign to get more IPS students to attend school here. The current freshman class contains zip zilch zero students from IPS (I do wonder if they include Broad Ripple High School in this because it's a magnet school in the IPS system).

I guess it might have hit me that when people talk about how bad US schools are I just missed it because that wasn't the experiance I had. Yes, they could have taught me more (hello, more AP classes? actually letting me take BOTH sections of world history?) but I'm pretty sure more that 50% of my class graduated.

Reading I'm not sure this has direction, let alone a point. But I'm sharing anyways.
